If you've thought about trying appliqué but just aren't sure if you can commit, this might just be the pattern for you.  It's got some great traditional appliqué aspects, but not so much of it that it'll take the next ten years to get done!  But the real reason I'm blogging about it is that it's a charitable pattern - all the proceeds from the pattern go to help a little girl named Kyra who's been dealing with a pretty horrible illness.  I'm going to talk to my guild and see if anyone wants to help me piece one and either donate it or auction it for charity.

the cutting table at Spool of Thread in Vancouver

Have you ever ordered a whole bolt of fabric? I did once (kona white) and I'm thinking of doing it again since Hancocks of Paducah has a free shipping code right now (xp8ml42).  It might not be the best deal if you're in the States, but for us internationals, free shipping over $100 is pretty great!

Why didn't I come across this earlier?  Kim's adorable cathedral window pin cushion tutorial on her blog My Go-Go Life

  2. It looks like Spool of Thread has added more yardsticks since I was in last! I'm so excited, I'm heading to Vancovuer during spring break, woohoo, big city shopping!

I love your idea of making the quilt and auctioning or donating it. I'll volunteer to do a block for it :-)

  3. Love those pincushions - I made one for my mum for Christmas, but she hasn't used it yet, apparently she's hunting for the perfect pins for it o.O
