scrap tripping

I actually finished this Tuesday, and somehow now it's Friday, and again I'm behind.  Again.

But I guess I'm also kind of ahead of the game since this is going to be a gift for friends we're visiting in Toronto in April.  Watch me start quilting it the night before we leave!!

the perspective is really weird on this.  the quilt is 6' across, the dog a lot less than that
I love that this quilt along was so spontaneous, so no pressure.  I love that it finally made me click with instagram (I'm chelseafr).  I wish it had put more of a dent in my un-loveds.  Maybe a scrap vomit is in my future?

Not that I'm saying any of these fabrics are particularly ugly.  (Not that Amy Butler or Lizzy House et al are reading this and will get offended).  I'm just kind of over them.  At least they can be used unlike lipsticks I'm bored of.  Why did I ever think frost was a good finish?

And because I love it so much, here's a sneaky peek of a quilt I'm quilting for Katie.  So much yummy grey to fill with quilting!

happy friday,

single girl update

I wasn't going to blog today but then I started folded laundry and realized that a little bit of watery fall light was coming through the window, perfectly accenting the quilting on my single girl.

So here she is all quilted, bound, and done.  Already covered in dirt in some spots thanks to the cats.  And done.  Did I mention done?  So glad it's done.

After much back and forth I went with the blue flea market fancy stripe.  I realized that what had been holding me back from deciding was that while I love this quilt I just wasn't in love with it anymore.  So consequently I didn't care all that much what it was bound with.  So why the blue stripe?  That's what I had the most of.  Decision by default I guess.

have an awesome weekend,

for Jim

So my father in law asked me to make a baby quilt.  Or more asked the husband to ask me.  Which means the details on the commission were a little sketchy.  All I know is the baby is or will be a girl.

Not knowing the parents I figured red and aqua would be the perfect route and after seeing Jolene's gorgeous chevron baby quilt I knew I wanted to do chevrons. But a little different, like the ones in Vanessa's banner.  Some tinkering with angles and it worked!

I love the softer angle to the chevrons and when Holly suggested rounded corners it just all came together!

I had so much fun with the quilting, adding a different design to each of the white segments.  I particularly love that seaweed-ish vine!  Oh, and that the solid red didn't run.  That was a relief!

happy weekend,

my thouroughly unmodern mini

Last night I finished up my way late mini quilt that would have been entered in the Modern Mini Challenge if I hadn't been so late.  And you know what I realized, not only did I not make the deadline, it's not modern!

My plan was do make a lone star but add modern quilting.  Somehow that became a lone star with very traditional quilting!

I still love it though!  And what can I say, I love traditional quilts.

And it will be a good sample to promote my quilting.  Most of the quilters around here fall into the art or traditional categories and a too modern look just won't attract their business.  As it is I got a few comments about my daring fabric choices!

Not from the dog.  She just wanted to know why I was outside and not following her around.  Because according to her, that's the best thing going.

xox,
