my thouroughly unmodern mini

Last night I finished up my way late mini quilt that would have been entered in the Modern Mini Challenge if I hadn't been so late.  And you know what I realized, not only did I not make the deadline, it's not modern!

My plan was do make a lone star but add modern quilting.  Somehow that became a lone star with very traditional quilting!

I still love it though!  And what can I say, I love traditional quilts.

And it will be a good sample to promote my quilting.  Most of the quilters around here fall into the art or traditional categories and a too modern look just won't attract their business.  As it is I got a few comments about my daring fabric choices!

Not from the dog.  She just wanted to know why I was outside and not following her around.  Because according to her, that's the best thing going.

  3. I wish we didn't have to think about other people's reactions to our quilts, or to label them as modern, traditional, or art quilts. I would label your quilt beautiful and the quilting is amazing.

  9. It is beautiful, and the quilting is great! I like modern quilting because...I can do it!

And really, many of the modern minis weren't very modern...if at all :/ Frankly, I'm not sure mine really was either!

  13. Oh I think it's modern, in that you are brave enough to combine the best modern prints and use traditional quilting - traditionalist would baulk a combining the two - it's beautiful x

  20. I love everything about this, too. This is an awesome traditional pattern anyway. The quilting stopped me dead in my tracks. I would love to know if this was quilted on your long arm machine as well. Also, do you recall what that super cute fabric is that you used for the binding. It's awesome! Thanks for sharing. This is just too great!
