do.good.done

blue navy orange yellow spiderweb block quilt

I am so happy to have finished my first do.good.stitches quilt!  And just under deadline for Rachel's Celebrate good stitches bash!

blue navy orange yellow spiderweb block quilt

This turned out just how I'd hoped.  Bright but grounded, Unisex in a good way.  And a fun, voyeuristic peek into the stashes of my fellow bee members!

Now I just need to get it into the wash.  Can you believe all that lint and cat hair?

Did you notice the binding in the hairy shot?  I had the worst time sewing that on!  My machine started having tension seizures.  It would go from fine to loops on the back, then I'd rethread and the thread would break.  After spending about an hour stitching down 2 feet of binding I was about ready to hunt down a repair shop.  But, guess what, it was the thread!  Some old, bargain basement poly junk was making me rip out my hair.  I switched to the So Fine I'd quilted with and the binding was done in 15 minutes.  That bad thread now says hand basting only!

  1. All you quilters seem to have cats. But there is never cat hair on the pictures. I figure it got photoshopped out. Thanks for showing the real deal :-) Great quilt too! The wonkyness in the sizes of the pie slices makes me feel like I am getting sucked into a vortex. Very cool.

  6. Fantastic Chelsea! It wasn't that Connecting Threads thread I sent you, was it? ;)

  7. The quilt's looking so good. I have a series of things I go through when I'm having trouble with my stitches - 1. rethread the machine, 2. change the thread, 3. change the needle - I find it never turns out to be the machine. Also I was told a few years ago that as it ages thread starts to snap more easily and I've since found this to be true so I try to use thread that's less than 2-3 years old. :)

  9. "a fun, voyeuristic peek into the stashes of my fellow bee members" I love that! It's so true and definitely a big part of the fun of being in a bee.

  10. Beautiful! I like the range in the prints and values between the different blocks. There is just that one block in particular that is slightly darker than the rest. :) I love it!
