On a whim
I've been chugging away and have finally finished my On a Whim top! Woot! Now I just need to decide what to do about borders since it's a little too small.
This quilt was a bit of a pain in the butt to make, so I'm really glad the top is done. Those square in a square parts are really hard to get accurate and then there are so many points to match up as you sew the blocks together. I decided that accuracy was going out the window with this one and just bodged it together. After all, it's going on a bed, not on a wall in a quilt show!
Oh, and can I say how much I adore these DSQuilts fabrics? They're Aunt Edna, and Fabric Traditions really stepped up their game with these ones. They're silky, have a tiny bit of sheen, and, well, are just gorgeous Denyse perfection. Can't wait for the full unveil of Chikopee!

Great looking quilt! I have this pattern and these fabrics and was thinking of making one along the same lines as yours. I was looking over the pattern and thought those square in a square units were going to be a problem. I might redraft the block so I can use my Deb Tucker square in a square ruler. It makes it easier for me. thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Although that precise piecing would totally push me over the edge o.O
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern and your choice of colors!! to bad it had to be a little stressful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I really love those DS fabrics. I just may have to find me some.
ReplyDeleteOh it's gorgeous!! Damn you Joanns and your 'no international shipping' policy!
ReplyDeleteoohhh so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteWow! It looks amazing. I'm way inspired :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect! Your points look pretty good from here too. :) I agree that the Denyse Schmidt fabrics are just lovely (although I actually didn't care for them much when I first started quilting, can you imagine!?). ;) Do you have a quilting plan yet?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this is gorgeous! Fabulous. Totally not bodged.
ReplyDeleteoh my gracious chelsea! it is gorgeous! love love love it! i looked super close and i couldn't see any imperfections. xo i agree i love that line. i need to get me some more of it.
ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTHAT is a beautiful quilt, but wow, it looks like it was hard work! I'm still too slapdash to try anything that needs absolute precision, but I like to think that I'll get there one day.
ReplyDeleteI had the same issues when making this quilt. I was really glad to be done with it. Next time I think I would use foundation piecing or cut the pieces at a different size to get more accurate blocks. Love the Denyse Schmidt fabric choices and look forward to seeing how you quilt it
