hexy baby

 hexagon baby quilt

Oh, yeah, work it!  You're hexy, baby.

Now that that's out of my system, how about a little quilt info?  I fell in love with this quilt on a²w and since a cousin had conveniently had a little girl, well, all the more reason to make one.  I decided to switch things up a bit and rather than have the hexagons all in a row to scatter them across the quilt top, kind of like cubist beach balls.

And then I quilted the crap out of it.

I'll be the first to admit that it might be too much.  I don't want anyone to think that this quilt is only for display, for "good".  I want it to be played on and dragged around.  More than anything I want a call from Emma in a few years telling me that Penelope has started to wear her quilt out, can I make her another one.  That will make me really happy.

Saturday I'm heading to Victoria for my grandmother's birthday.  None of us are quite sure if she's turning 98 or 99, but I'm thinking it's kind of rude to ask.  I'm hoping I'll also get to meet Penny then, too, if her mum and dad aren't too exhausted.  She was a premie (like me) so August has been kind of insane.  But she's home now and putting on weight so things are looking up!  She won't be dragging her quilt through the mud anytime soon, obviously, but you know, once babies start growing, they tend to keep doing it!

My backs are normally pretty boring, but because this was pretty small I thought I'd break out some of the good stuff - fmf!  With some salt air and outfoxed thrown in, too.  I think they all play pretty well together!

  4. You know "and then I quilted the crap out of it" is the unofficial motto of the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild, right? Sounds like you could be an honorary member! I love these monochromatic hexagons and the random placement is great. Beautiful quilt!

  12. Beautiful!!
You HAVE to ask your grandma how old she is - so that you can arrange all of the congratulatory letters for her 100th. You can even get one from the Queen. http://www.royal.gov.uk/HMTheQueen/Queenandanniversarymessages/Birthdaymessages.aspx
She wouldn't want to miss out on that!

  23. The quilt is truly beautiful, good to hear everyone has the same opinion about how they want their quilt to be used and used until it's as soft as flannel. :)
